B

Best Available Rate (BAR)
A rate available to the general public that does not require pre-payment and does not impose cancellation or change penalties and/or fees, other than those imposed as a result of a hotel property's normal cancellation policy.

Best Rate Guarantee (BRG)
One of the latest pricing mechanism, increasingly used by hotels and hotel chains around the world. It was introduced as a result of the hotel industry mimicking the airline industry, which sets price by forecasting demand.

Block

Blog
A Web site, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order.

Break Even Point
The point at which cost or expenses and revenue are equal: there is no net loss or gain, and one has "broken even". There hasn't been made a profit nor a loss, although opportunity costs have been paid, and capital has received the risk-adjusted, expected return.

Business-to-Business (B2B)
A term commonly used to describe commerce transactions between businesses like the one between a manufacturer and a wholesaler or a wholesaler and a retailer i.e both the buyer and the seller are business entity.

Business-to-Consumer (B2C)
Also called Business-to-Customer, it describes activities of businesses serving end consumers with products and/or services.

What's in a word?

Keeping up to date with the latest terminology can be tricky at the best of times. With all the abbreviations and catch-phrases, new word concoctions and descriptors that have taken root in modern day parlance, maintaining a “Glossary of Terms” that keeps pace with technological developments can be a risky business!
